Install
OsmAnd, howto install and configure
Download the flyer with the quick installation instructions.
4 steps:
- First, download and install the OsmAnd app. (there are a few sources for download here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.osmand and here http://blog.osmand.net/en/installation-menu.html , this including for Blackberry devices).
- Install the basemaps, you need at least the world and a country basemap. Download your choice of maps and unpack/move them to the sdcard (from the OsmAnd downloads site http://download.osmand.net/rawindexes/ ).
- Install the Historic maps, download your choice of zipped maps from this site https://www.geotiek.nl/ and unpack them to your sdcard.
- Configure the app for use with your sdcard and selection of maps.
- Settings -> General Settings -> Storage Directory = fill in the location of your SDcard. This tends to be tricky as:
SD-card naming varies across Android versions and brands and adding to the confusion
internal memory on some devices is also called SD-card.
My advice look for the exact path with a proper file manager.
If properly set up, your device will now work with the basemaps installed on the SD-card. - Now activate the plugin to enable the historic overlay maps:
Settings -> Plugins -> Activate Plugin: Online Maps. - Select a Historic map as a overlay map.
Settings -> Online Maps -> Overlay Map: now you should see your installed Historic maps
- Settings -> General Settings -> Storage Directory = fill in the location of your SDcard. This tends to be tricky as:
Your SD-card will look like this:
SD-Card/osmand/Netherlands_europe_2.obf SD-Card/osmand/World_basemap_2.obf SD-Card/osmand/tiles/Alkmaar 1597 Cornelis Drebbel.sqlite |
Download the flyer with the quick installation instructions, or
download the Manual (not ready yet) with all the instructions in detail.
Note: Android apps can be installed through these 3 options:
- directly from an online appstore,
- from an online pc with some Android management software or
- manual install from a sdcard.
